1935 -

The Montclair company was founded in 1935 by Gino Mariani and Alfred Galardo.

1946 -

In 1946, after returning from the war as a Canadian soldier, Alfred Galardo, a self-taught musician and son of Italian immigrants, took over the company and became a construction contractor. He originally began constructing buildings and gas stations.

1950 -

For Montclair, the 1950s were marked by various contracts to build universities, CEGEPS and synagogues. For several years, the company worked on major public works projects such as water treatment plants and large commercial buildings.

1970 -

The 1970s allowed Montclair to make various contracts to build metro stations.

1980 -

In 1980, Greg Galardo, then 26, took over from his father, Alfred Galardo. His academic background (MBA at the University of Western Ontario) and his many years of experience in the US market had prepared him well. After a thorough analysis of new trends and new players in the market, Greg sought to develop the residential market. He wanted to innovate and offer new solutions, both in terms of materials and building styles.

1985 -

1985 marked the company’s change in direction toward residential products. The accomplishments on Ile des Sœurs in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as in Tremblant in 1993, are great examples. He then took on a major challenge in Anjou-sur-le-Lac by taking over a financially troubled project and turning it into a huge success. He completed the project by building two 8-storey towers, which were of remarkably superior construction quality.

1993 -

In 1993, a unique business opportunity presented itself: an exclusive residential project, expected to a span more than 20 years, in Bois-Franc in Saint-Laurent. From the start, this project set itself apart with a “New Urbanism” approach, in addition to a dream location, which qualified the project as a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).

It was a dream opportunity to develop different real estate products: condominiums, townhouses and single-family homes. For Greg, the Bois-Franc project has made it possible for him to perfect certain project lines in order to incorporate new materials and new trends, as well as build more than 2,000 different units since early 1994.

2010 -

In 2010, there was another major announcement when the project developer, Bombardier Services Immobiliers, sold the remaining available land east of Cavendish. Montclair then joined forces with Sotramont to create Les Développements Bois-Franc to take over as the developer of this major residential project.

2013 -

In 2013, Les Développements Bois-Franc planned and obtained the ratification of the Saint-Laurent borough for the final phase of the project. Montclair continues its role as a builder and offers contemporary consumers a distinctive Montclair product.

2016 -

Greg Galardo and Nicolas Galardo received the “Builder of the Year” award in 2016 at the APCHQ Gala
